Traditional lime plaster work repairs. Gordon Chapel, Fochabers
Traditional Lime Plaster Repairs at Gordon Chapel, Fochabers The internal plaster of Gordon Chapel had significantly deteriorated due to dampness caused by an inappropriate external cement coating. To address this, we replaced the cement coating with traditional lime harling, followed by five coats of lime wash to restore breathability and authenticity to the structure. Internally, we carefully removed modern paint layers from sound original lime plaster, ensuring the preservation of intact areas. Any salt-laden or deteriorated plaster was removed, and repairs were carried out using a traditional mixture of lime putty and sand, matched precisely to the original plaster. To complete the restoration, we applied Keim Silicate paint to the repaired surfaces. This high-quality breathable paint allows the walls to effectively manage moisture, ensuring their longevity and maintaining the chapel’s historic character.
